Congress passes Monsanto Protection Act, All hands on deck! 

We regret to inform you, but today Congress succeeded in passing Section 735, aka the Monsanto Protection Act, in the Continuing Resolution spending bill. Once again, Monsanto and the biotech industry have used their lobbying power to undermine your basic rights. We need you to contact Congress and tell them you are outraged. With the Senate passage of the Monsanto Protection Act, biotech lobbyists are one step closer to making sure that their new GMO crops can evade any serious scientific or regulatory review.
This dangerous provision, which we're calling the Monsanto Protection Act, strips judges of their constitutional mandate to protect consumer and farmer rights and the environment, while opening up the floodgates for the planting of new untested genetically engineered crops, endangering farmers, citizens and the environment.

    Dear President Obama, Representative and Senator,
    I am writing to let you know that I am outraged that the “farmer assurance provision”, Section 735, currently included in HR 933, was not struck from the Continuing Resolution spending bill passed by Congress.

    Though wrapped in a “farmer-friendly” package, this provision is simply an industry ploy to continue to sell genetically engineered (GMO) seeds even when a court of law has found they were approved by USDA illegally. It is unnecessary and an unprecedented attack on U.S. judicial review. Congress should not be meddling with the judicial review process based solely on the special interest of a handful of companies.

    The judicial review process is an essential element of U.S law and serves as a vital check on any federal agency decision that may negatively impact human health, the environment or the livelihood of farmers, yet this provision seeks an end-run around such judicial review by preemptively deciding that industry can set its own conditions to continue to sell biotech seeds, even if a court may find them to have been wrongfully approved.

    The provision further forces USDA to immediately approve any permits for continued planting at the industry's request, putting industry completely in charge by allowing for a “back door approval” mechanism. USDA’s duty is to protect the interests of all farmers and the environment, a duty that would be eliminated by this provision.

    The provision is also completely unnecessary. Every court to decide these issues has carefully weighed the interests of farmers, as is already required by law. I demand that this dangerous and unconstitutional rider be struck from HR 933, the Continuing Resolution by the President before signing this bill.

    Marijuana Inc: Do as I say and not as I do

    The war on drugs has many components and the war on weed is just one such component. Jamaica has been the American front line in the war on weed for many decades. Various leaders over the many years have mentioned the words legal and weed but the American administration has made it clear that any such attempts will be met with Cuban style embargoes and sanctions as we were told we will never be allowed to capitalize on our weed resources.


    Fast forward several decades where one American state after other have legalized weed, yes the very same weed that we were not allowed to develop. With 18 Legal Medical Marijuana States including DC and a further 11 States with Pending Legislation to Legalize Medical Marijuana the Potential US Marijuana Market is Estimated to be between $46 Billion to $120 Billion, I have seen the $300 Billion figure being quoted in some news outlet, it is clear that the United States of America  have legalized weed and are reaping the benefits from it. They have weed dispensing machines, weed hotels and various state politicians came out declaring that they are trying to create weed tourism market.They have also developed new and improved types of weed in their laboratories.

    Here we have a picture on Fortune Magazine, which tells me that weed is OK so long as the people benefiting from it is white and wearing a suit. It amazes me that everything brown people have is always devalued or demonized, diamond, gold, oil and other precious resources are not worth much when it is in Brown people country but once it leaves and reaches shores of America and Europe it immediately takes on great value.

    What upsets me is that our Jamaican Government have not tested the legalization waters in a long time, not even an open and honest debate on the subject. Various papers have been written over the many years stating that weed should be legal for local consumption and illegal for export which would enhance the tourist industry. Michael Manley mentioned it in the 70s and was met with threats from the Americans and Edward Seaga mentioned it in the 80s and suffered the same faith. I would like to know what they the Americans would say today because from where I am sitting they do not have a leg to stand on since they are high as a kite, legalizing weed and  raking in billions.

    Jamaica’s parliament is backlogged, there are bills hanging around that place since 1962 waiting to be passed like a ghost in a haunted mansion waiting to pass over to the other side. It takes years/decades for them to do anything… The United States of America held a senate committee meeting about the lotto Scam coming out of Jamaica and almost immediately before the week was up an anti-lotto bill went through parliament faster than it takes milk to pass through my system and trust me milk and my system are bitter enemies.

    Lipid Researcher, 98, Reports On the Dietary Causes of Heart Disease Validating Dr. Robert O. Young's Research

    Feb. 27, 2013 — A 98-year-old researcher argues that, contrary to decades of clinical assumptions and advice to patients, dietary cholesterol is good for your heart -- unless that cholesterol is unnaturally oxidized (by frying foods in reused oil, eating lots of polyunsaturated fats, or smoking).

His research contradicts commonly held notions about the role of dietary cholesterol. (Credit: L. Brian Stauffer)The researcher, Fred Kummerow, an emeritus professor of comparative biosciences at the University of Illinois, has spent more than six decades studying the dietary factors that contribute to heart disease. In a new paper in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Disease, he reviews the research on lipid metabolism and heart disease with a focus on the consumption of oxidized cholesterol -- in his view a primary contributor to heart disease.
    "Oxidized lipids contribute to heart disease both by increasing deposition of calcium on the arterial wall, a major hallmark of atherosclerosis, and by interrupting blood flow, a major contributor to heart attack and sudden death," Kummerow wrote in the review.
    Over his 60-plus-year career, Kummerow has painstakingly collected and analyzed the findings that together reveal the underlying mechanisms linking oxidized cholesterol (and trans fats) to heart disease.

    Dr. Robert O. Young, a researcher at the pH Miracle Center in Valley Center, California states, "lipids, especially LDL's are a primary chelator of dietary and/or metabolic acids, protecting the vasuclar system and heart from acid or oxidizing damage."
    Many of Kummerow's insights come from his relentless focus on the physical and biochemical changes that occur in the arteries of people with heart disease. For example, he has worked with surgeons to retrieve and examine the arteries of people suffering from heart disease, and has compared his findings with those obtained in animal experiments.
    He and his colleagues first reported in 2001 that the arteries of people who had had bypass operations contained elevated levels of sphingomyelin (SFING-oh-my-uh-lin), one of several phospholipids (phosphate-containing lipids) that make up the membranes of all cells. The bypass patients also had significantly more oxidized cholesterols (oxysterols) in their plasma and tissues than people who had not been diagnosed with heart disease.
    Human cells incubated with the blood plasma of the cardiac patients also picked up significantly more calcium from the culture medium than cells incubated in the plasma of healthy patients. When the researchers added oxysterols to the healthy plasma, the proportion of sphingomyelin in the cells increased, as did the uptake of calcium.

    Dr. Young further states, "because cardiac patients are highly acidic from an acidic lifestyle and diet the body uses lipids and calcium to solidify dietary and metabolic acids to protect the organs that sustain life, such as the heart.  This of course can cause acidic build-up on the walls of the arteries leading to athersclerosis and/or coronary heart disease.  A plant based diet can prevent the solidification of acids and protect the heart from acid damage and the build-up of acids on the walls of the arteries."
    Earlier research, including studies conducted by medical pioneer Michael DeBakey, noted that the most problematic plaques in patients with heart disease occurred at the branch-points of the arteries of the heart. Kummerow followed up on these reports by looking at the phospholipid content of the arterial walls in pigs and humans. He found (and reported in 1994) that the branch points of the arteries in humans and in swine also had significantly more sphingomyelin than other regions of the same arteries.
    For Kummerow, the increase in sphingomyelin was a prime suspect in the blocked and calcified arteries of the cardiac patients. He had already found that the arteries of the newborn human placenta contained only about 10 percent sphingomyelin and 50 percent phosphatidylcholine (FOSS-fuh-tih-dul-COH-lean), another important phospholipid component of cell membranes.
    "But when we looked at the arteries of people who had had bypass operations, we found up to 40 percent sphingomyelin and about 27 percent phosphatidylcholine," Kummerow said. "It took us many more years to discover that when you added large amounts of oxysterols to the cells, then the phosphatidylcholine changed to sphingomyelin."
    Further evidence supported sphingomyelin's starring role in atherosclerosis. When Kummerow and his colleagues compared the blocked and unblocked arteries of patients needing second bypass operations, they found that the arteries with blockages contained twice as much sphingomyelin as the unblocked arteries. The calcium content of the blocked arteries (6,345 parts per million) was also much higher than that of the unblocked arteries (182 ppm).
    Other studies had demonstrated a link between increases in sphingomyelin and the deposit of calcium in the coronary arteries. The mechanism by which this occurred was unclear, however. Kummerow's team searched the literature and found a 1967 study that showed that in the presence of certain salts (in the blood, for example), lipids like sphingomyelin develop a negative charge. This explains the attraction of the positively charged calcium to the arterial wall when high amounts of sphingomyelin are present, Kummerow said.

    Dr. Young suggests, "the increase of sphingomyelin and the deposit of calcium in the coronnary arteries is simply caused by an increase of dietary and/or metabolic acids that have been solidfied to protect healthy body cells from acid oxidation or degeneration."
    "So there was a negative charge on the wall of this artery, and it attracted calcium from the blood until it calcified the whole artery," he said.
    Oxidized fats contribute to heart disease (and sudden death from heart attacks) in an additional way, Kummerow said. He and his collaborators found that when the low-density lipoprotein (LDL, the so-called "bad cholesterol") is oxidized, it increases the synthesis of a blood-clotting agent, called thromboxane, in the platelets.
    If someone eats a diet rich in oxysterols and trans fats and also smokes, he or she is endangering the heart in three distinct ways, Kummerow said. The oxysterols enhance calcification of the arteries and promote the synthesis of a clotting agent. And the trans fats and cigarette smoke interfere with the production of a compound, prostacyclin, which normally keeps the blood fluid.
    "And that causes 600,000 deaths in this country each year," Kummerow said.

    THE NEW WORD ON SUGAR: STAYING ALKALINE WITH HEALTHIER SWEETS

    THE YEAR IS STILL QUITE NEW and it's a new season to adopt a more healthy lifestyle. A huge part of the pH Miracle mission is to make healthy food that taste great! Most kids -and adults, who are just big kids – eat for taste, so it's really important that healthy food tastes good to or people won't stay with it. There is emerging research that cautioning us about our sugar intake. We have been taking sugars – even fruit sugars out of the diet of sick and tired people for many years because they cause high acidity in the blood and tissues. We already know that sugar causes diabetes and obesity, but too many people – even medical doctors – have yet to realize the significant role that sugar plays in acidic cancer cells and tumors and how they metabolize. We know that sugars proliferate yeasts, molds and bacteria loads in the bloodstream. We also see those same loads diminish in the blood when we take sugars out of the diet. As we all know, taking away sugar can be an adjustment. Something sweet simply tastes good.

    So, how do we keep our patients healthy and happy at the pH Miracle Center? Here are a few healthy and sweet tricks of the trade…

    GREEN MILK EVERY MORNING!

    Green milk is what we call our blend of fresh green juices like spinach, celery, parsley, cucumber, kale, romaine and cabbage with fresh silky nut and seed milks - usually almond or hazelnut milk - which is our favorite. It is delicious! And holds a humbler, more pancreas-friendly sweetness that is so refreshing first thing in the morning. I love this blend so much that I drink it all throughout the day! If you're someone who is just getting into fresh juicing or doing your first juice cleanse, the green milk is a great way to go, not only to add the wonderful alkalizing elements and B-vitamins from the greens, but also Vitamin E, calcium and magnesium from the almond milk! You can go half green juice, half almond milk for a very creamy version, or you can simply fill your glass with mostly the juice of greens and then use the almond milk as a "creamer" on top. That's how I like it best! Either way, this is a sweet way to get your blood fortified and cleansed in a tasty new way!

    RED PEPPER LICORICE

    Another thing I do to satisfy my sweet tooth is make "red licorice" out of red bell peppers. Simply core and cut up red bell peppers into thin strips and place them on a dehydrator tray and dehydrate them just until they slightly bend. They are chewy and sweet! I take them to the movies or keep a stash in my car when I want something chewy. You can also continue to dehydrate them to a crisp consistency and grind them into a powder in your VitaMix (or other blender) and sprinkle over your soups, shakes and salads. Incredibly colorful and sweet!

    PALM COCONUT BLOSSOM SWEETENER

    Once a person has their health back and there is no sign of cancer or inflammation in their system, I use the new palm coconut blossom sweetener that can be found in health food stores. This sweetener is a dried form of the sap that comes from coconut blossoms. I use it in our Coconut Citrus Kale Chips, in our shakes and our Super Soy Pudding when we want a treat!

    Schoolgirl dies after cervical cancer vaccination

    An urgent investigation has been launched after a 14-year-old girl died shortly after receiving a cervical cancer vaccination at her school.
    Natalie Morton was a pupil at the Blue Coat Church of England School inCoventry, where she was given the human papilloma virus (HPV) jab yesterday. She was taken to Coventry University hospital, where she died at lunchtime.
    A letter to parents posted on the school's website by the headteacher, Dr Julie Roberts, said a girl had suffered a "rare but extreme reaction" after being given the vaccine. The precise cause of her death remains unknown.
    Three other girls from the school are reported to have experienced possible side effects of dizziness and nausea after receiving the Cervarix jab, which was given to female pupils as part of a national immunisation programme against HPV. Their symptoms were described as mild and none was taken to hospital.
    Although no link has yet been made between Natalie's death and the HPV vaccine, NHS Coventry said it had quarantined the batch as a "precautionary measure" and had contacted the parents of other children at the school who may have been affected.
    Dr Caron Grainger, joint director for public health for NHS Coventry and Coventry city council, said: "Our sympathies are with the girl's family and friends at this difficult time. The incident happened shortly after the girl had received her HPV vaccine in the school. No link can be made between the death and the vaccine until all the facts are known and a postmortem takes place." She added: "We are conducting an urgent and full investigation into the events surrounding this tragedy."
    Dr Pim Kon, medical director at GlaxoSmithKline UK, which manufactures Cervarix, offered the company's "deepest sympathies" to the girl's family and friends.
    "We are working with the Department of Health (DoH) and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to better understand this case, as at this stage the exact cause of this tragic death is unknown," she said.
    Although national programmes also exist in other European countries, Britain is the only country to have opted to use Cervarix, rather than a rival brand called Gardasil.
    Although the NHS said the drug underwent "rigorous safety testing" before being chosen for the program, the shadow health secretary, Andrew Lansley, called for more transparency over the assessments made of Cervarix and Gardasil. "This is tragic news and will be deeply concerning for all the families involved," he said. "The DoH and the MHRA need to investigate, as a matter of urgency, what the cause of this is so they can assess how widespread the problem could be."
    The public health minister, Gillian Merron, said: "It is important we have the results of further investigations as soon as possible to establish the cause of this sad event."
    Cervical cancer is responsible for more than 1,000 deaths in Britain each year, with around 3,000 women diagnosed annually. 
    The national program to immunize all schoolgirls aged 12 and over began across the UK last autumn, with the aim of offering the vaccine to all girls under the age of 18 by 2011. The decision to immunize teenagers before they become sexually active has been controversial, with some critics of the program claiming the treatment would encourage more teenagers to engage in sexual activity.
    According to Dr. Robert O. Young, a research scientist at the pH Miracle Center states, "true immunity and protection against cervical cancer can be achieved with an alkaline lifestyle and diet and without the harmful effects of a poisonous acidic vaccination."

    URGENT! THE SENATE VOTES TODAY: Tell your Senators to Stop the Monsanto Rider and Support the Tester Amendment!

    It’s back! Monsanto’s lobbyists have managed to slip the Monsanto Protection Act, also known as the Monsanto Rider (Sec. 735), into the Senate Continuing Resolution spending bill. Fortunately, Senator Tester has introduced an amendment (#74), co-sponsored by Senators Boxer, Gillibrand and Leahy, to strike the rider from the bill. But we have to act fast, as the Senate is voting on this bill today!

    The so-called “Monsanto Rider” would require the Secretary of Agriculture to grant a temporary permit for planting or cultivating a genetically engineered crop, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed. That’s right, even the federal courts won’t be able to stop Monsanto from planting unproven, potentially dangerous crops if this bill passes today.

    When America has a problem with Jamaica they are not afraid to summon various members of our Government before their Committees for a good old fashion Bollocking… If Jamaica have any problems with America we will never hear about it because our Governments will never say and the people will get upset fearing it may affect their chances of getting the visa, so we can never publicly have a problem with America or be seen to criticize America in any way because we fear retaliation. Government ministers have been summoned to Washington (our colonial masters up north) to explain to the American congress why they have not eliminated Lotto scamming… Like a school boy being summoned to the Principle's Office

    Members of the committee did not hold their tongues, there was no politeness on their part as they raked Jamaica over the hot coal... Jamaica was described as a hotbed of fraudsters, it was a full scale slaughter. I am not defending these lotto scammers, they should all be taken outside and shot nor am I defending the slow response from our Governments both PNP and JLP, they should also be taken outside and shot but I object to painting us all with the same corrupt brush. The JLP was Disingenuous as they were quick off the mark pointing fingers at the current Government, the lotto scamming is not a new thing, it was in full swing during the JLP administration and that Government failed to eliminate this scourge.


    The political class must remember that when members of the American Congress Committee was classing Jamaica and Jamaicans like dogs, they did not once mention the words JLP or PNP… they said Jamaica and Jamaicans, as members of congress said that the Jamaican authorities were slow to react to this problem for many years which includes both PNP and JLP years. Jamaica as a country was slaughtered yesterday but the idiot political class could not wait to hold their press conference to start the finger pointing thinking they may get some political mileage out of this public Bollocking from the United States. It was the JLP who first fired salvos of accusation towards the PNP Government and the PNP Government Fired back with a couple Salvos of their own.

    The only person worth listening to as the voice of reasoning was Ed Bartlett who calmly stated that blame must be shared by both sides and that politicians on both sides benefited from the Lotto Scam Money, however I did not agree with him that everyone must be careful how they talk as I would like to know who benefited from this criminal enterprise and before we start throwing stones at Jamaica a google search will show that many American/UK politicians have benefited and continue to benefit from illegal money, yes two wrong do not make a right but let’s have some perspective.

    Both Members of the PNP and JLP looked extremely stupid in my eyes during the news as they fought for the higher ground that simply did not exist as this is not a PNP vs JLP issue but our political class can only think on those primitive lines.

    The Hon. Julian Robinson is in Florida doing some five televisions and radio interviews targeting areas in Florida, Colorado, Detroit, Baltimore and Boston which are among the areas most affected by incidents of the lotto scam. So our Government must travel to the United States to warn the American people not to believe the scammers in Jamaica. We Jamaicans must fight the scammers in our country and then spend money hard earn tax payers money to educate Americans in America. So what is the American Government doing? I do not see members of the American Government coming to Jamaica to do television and radio interviews warning Jamaicans in areas most affected by incidents of gun violence of the dangers of buying American Guns...

    While our Ministers are answering questions, I think they should bring up a couple issues we the Jamaican people would like the American Government to answer:

    1)The visa scamming taking place at US embassy where they have no problem taking poor people’s money and then showing them the door... I wonder how much money per year the embassy rake in?

    2) How easy it is for illegal American Guns to leave that country and end up at port in Jamaica. We would like to know if they can do something to prevent barrels upon barrels of their weapons of death from leaving their country thus flooding my streets turning them into killing fields. Please remind them that the Total Number of Jamaicans murdered between 1998 to 2012 is 18,817 and 95% of those were killed by American made and sold Weapons. Make sure you ask them if they can police their ports a little better and be more careful who they sell these things to.

    3)Also Mr. Minister can you kindly ask them if it is OK for us to now Legalize weed because we noticed that they have been legalizing it all over America and making billions. We read that they have invented weed dispensing machine, have weed hotels and creating weed tourism. Remind them that the last time we said the words Weed and Legal they threatened us with all sort of sanctions.
